blue light filter with minimal wm

Here’s something nice for yall that run X with a lightweight WM - sct, or xsct, if you run GNU/Linux.

I use a heavy blue light filter on all my devices, but had settled on being okay with letting my eyes go raw on the T500 since I use WindowMaker and xcompmgr, which have no color temperature controls, as far as I’m aware. I just turn down the brightness on my display when it hurts, and for some reason, the CCFL backlight on this thing is easier on my eyes than any other type of backlight I’ve encountered. But, the other day, I got my spouse to start using Redshift on their vibrant, glossy IPS, and I figured if they were willing to do that, there was no reason for this to be the only display without a filter.

chromium on core2duo

I use OpenBSD-Current on a ThinkPad T500. It has a nice Core2Duo that I had been considering replacing with a beefy Core2Quad, as it was feeling sluggish for doing schoolwork in Ungoogled Chromium. The replacement entails a modification to allow extra voltage to the CPU, and would decrease total on-battery time somewhat. The battery on this thing is absolutely incredible for the age of the machine, but when using Chromium, it only lasts about two-thirds as long, so the modification would take it down to normal old laptop battery on-time levels. That would be disappointing!

moroder metropolis

I watched Giorgio Moroder’s restoration of Metropolis on LaserDisc the other day, maybe a week ago. It’s old enough that it was called “Laser Videodisc” and had a cool Vestron intro and outro. They really knew how to make a video seem like a cool thing you get to watch in the 80s, instead of like, a hellish thing you are subjected to because what else do you have to do, like it is today.

I don’t know what Boy Throb’s bit is yet, however, I can tell you that I know that “Number One Boy” is written by Hannah Diamond. I adore her work and can recognize her lyrical style anywhere. Not to mention the phone call effect on Darshawn.

My spouse thinks that Nathan Fielder is going to take the spot of the one that doesn’t sing anymore and when he does sing is bad at it despite having a degree in music. Obviously they’re up to something, for example, the openly gay kid saying he can’t say yet after starting to explain when he realized he was gay.

"undigitizing"

I exchanged e-mails with Harry at The Vista Group some months ago, prompted by a desire to see and manipulate a more raw form of one of his excellent releases. He was very kind, but it isn’t reasonable to expect someone to keep their ingest files, and in fact, he informed me that he does not usually do so.

I told him my reason for asking was that I “undigitize” video, by which I mean, I find something I believe my children should watch, I acquire it as a file off the Network and I ffmpeg it until it becomes a file that will fit nicely on a VHS tape.
